GPS Sail Tracks from the Worlds

Thanks to the generosity of the Japan Tasar Association, GPS tracking units were used to capture the sail tracks of up to 6 boats in the first 6 races at the Worlds. You can download zip files containing:

  • GPS data for each race
  • the software required to display the sail tracks (Windows version only)

Follow the steps below and you should be able to enjoy the animated display of the track of each boat, and a display of the boat's speed.

  1. click on one of the links below
  2. choose "Save" to save the zip file to a new folder on your PC
  3. using the "Save As" dialog box, create a new folder for the zip file (e.g. My Documents\Sail Tracks)
  4. click Save to download the zip file
  5. go to the new folder and "Extract" the contents of the zip file into this folder, using WinZip or a similar utility
NOTE: After extracting the contents, you should be able to see a new folder (e.g...\Sail Tracks\Tasar Worlds 2007 Invitation Race) with 5 subfolders.
  6. open the folder named "Tasar Worlds 2007..." and click on the file "e-yacht.exe"
NOTE: You can safely ignore any warning about a possibly unsafe .exe file; you may have to change your computer's regional setting to "English (US)" before the program will run.
  7. The e-Yacht browser will open, a gun will sound, and the boats will go into the prestart sequence.
  8. Repeat the procedure for each of the races (you can download all the zip files to the same folder, e.g My Documents\Sail Tracks).
