WTCA News>2008>Proposal for weighted voting defeated

Proposal to Adopted Weighted Voting is Defeated

Egbert Gerlich has advised that Tasar sailors in the Continental Europe district have voted against the proposal to use weighted voting for changes to the Tasar class rules and constitution.

This is the fourth vote against the proposal.

With only South Australia still to report its vote, there are 5 votes in favour (Victoria, Queensland, Japan, the UK and North American) and 4 opposed (Western Australia, New South Wales, Northern Territories and Continental Europe), so the proposed change cannot get the 7 votes necessary to pass..

I would like to thank George Motoyoshi and the Japan Tasar Association for developing the proposal, and presenting it at the World Council meeting in Thailand. I hope the class will continue to look for a way to ensure the views of all Tasar sailors count equally when changes to the rules or constiution are proposed.
