Advertising
A discussion of the impact of the new ISAF Advertising Code, RRS Regulation 20, on the Tasar class is on the agenda for the World Council meeting in Whitstable. (The advertising code is available as a pdf file on the ISAF website.) My understanding is: 1. There are now two categories of advertising - A and C. 2. If we do nothing, the Tasar class will default to Category A (see RRS Rule 20.4.2). 3. The Class Association can choose to go to Category C. This is not affected if we get ISAF Recognized Status (see 20.4.2 (a) and (b)). I assume "Class Association" means the World Tasar Class Association. 4. With either Category A or C, event organizers can require that the forward 25% of the hull on each side of all boats competing in an event is available to display advertising chosen by the event organizer. If such advertising is required, this has to be stated in the Notice of Race, and all boats must carry this advertising (unless it is for alcohol or tobacco). 5. If we decide to go to Category C: (a) individual competitors could find sponsors and display advertising. However, these individuals may be required to pay something to their Member National Authority. (b) the class could decide the maximum level of advertising an individual competitor could display, as long as these restrictions are included in the class rules and approved by the ISAF. 6. The bottom line appears to be: we don't need to do anything unless we want to allow individual sponsorship and advertising. Richard Spencer updated 2002-11-05 |
