Update from the West

27 December 2025

The Tasar Association of WA is keen to capitialise on the success of the 2025 Tasar Nataional Championship in building the WA tasar fleet.  The 2025 National Championship saw 21 local (WA) boats compete at Mandurah - showing the depth of interest in the class in WA.

Mindful of the effect of local numbers declining post hosting a National Championship, TAWA held a "futures workshop" where interested persons were invited to join a half day workshop - with the goal of developing a tangable plan to get more tasars sailing in WA.

In the course of the workshop, while the need for a long term strategic plan was understood, the scope of output was sharpened to identify how we get more tasars sailing in WA events in the short to medium term.

The following three key strategies were identified to achieve this aim:

  • Better Connect with Tasar Owners - Create opportunities to get to know each other - Find the boats and create a market point for boats to change hands
  • Host class coaching sessions - open to all members - develop a "buddy system" for events
  • Use association resources to encourge participation in WA events by reimbursing members regatta entry fees for selected WA events.  The "members sail for free" campaign.  View the 2025-26 TAWA Calendar here
