26th June to 7th July - Royal Torbay Yacht Club
It is with great pleasure that the TasarGBR Association and the World Tasar Council announce the World and European Championships 2028 will be held at the Royal Torbay Yacht Club in the UK from Monday 26th June to Friday 7th July.
Royal Torbay YC is widely recognised as one of Britain's leading championship destinations and has hosted many National, European and World Championships in recent years. These have included the 29er, 420, Albacore, B14, Dragon, Finn, Fireball, International Cadet, International Moth, J70, Optimist, RS 200, RS400, RS Aero, RS Feva, Solo, Squib, Tasar, Melges 24 and 32, SB20, K6 and VX One classes.
Torbay is situated in scenic South West England, the most popular holiday area in the UK, and has a wide range of accommodation options within easy reach of the club.
The event will combine a three-day European Championship followed by a six-day World Championship. Competitors will be able to enter for both or either championship.
Paul Ridgeway, winner of the Tasar World Championship 2011, held at
Royal Torbay YC, says: "We've been lucky enough to race in three
major regattas on Torbay and it is one of my favourite places to
sail and one of the UK's standout sailing venues. The combination
of reliable breeze, world-class racing waters and consistently
excellent race management makes it a fantastic place to
compete.
"Ashore, Torquay has just as much to offer. From its lively
waterfront and vibrant food scene to its beautiful parks, beaches
and attractions, there's something for sailors, families and
visitors alike. Add in the genuine hospitality of the local
community, and it's easy to understand why Torquay is known as the
English Riviera."
Nick Craig, Tasar World Champion 2025 and winner of the B14 European Championships 2026, held at Royal Torbay YC, says "Torquay is one of the premier UK venues with really well-run racing at a friendly club with great hospitality.
"The race area in Torbay is big, giving many course options and varied conditions including the famed easterly winds which bring perfect surfing waves - large and spread out. Torquay runs a lot of international sailing events so we can expect slick race management and fair courses from this experienced team.
'The clubhouse is old and grand with very friendly service, excellent food and a well-stocked bar so the après-sail should be as good as the sailing!"
